Who can request the AIRE certificate?
The AIRE certificate can be requested by anyone in any Italian municipality, provided that they know the personal data of the individual for whom they intend to obtain the document and provided that the aforementioned individual has been registered in the appropriate AIRE register of the relevant municipality.
To request the AIRE certificate you just need to fill out the form by entering the following information:
- name;
- surname;
- date of birth;
- municipality of registration in AIRE;
- province of AIRE registration.
What does the AIRE certificate contain?
The data contained in the AIRE certificate are:
- Name and Surname;
- Date of birth;
- Municipality and province of foreign residence (of AIRE registration)
- Foreign residence address (of AIRE registration)
The AIRE register includes not only natural persons resident abroad for more than 12 months, but also those born/resident abroad who have acquired Italian citizenship (e.g. foreign spouse who acquired Italian citizenship through marriage).
NB the AIRE certificate is valid for six months from the moment of its issue, after which time it will be necessary to request a new updated certificate.
When to request the AIRE certificate
To request the AIRE certificate it is necessary:
- to exercise the right to vote abroad in elections held in Italy;
- to enjoy all consular rights;
- Requesting the AIRE certificate is useful:
- to renew your driving license, identity card or other documents;
- to obtain Italian certificates;
- whenever official certification of foreign residency of an Italian citizen is requested.
